More From Our Students...
(March 2, 2018)
Stay tuned for our next “VLOG!” I assure you that the students will address a great topic!
For now though, here are a few more posts from our GT music students…
“One of the most important things to me is music, more specifically singing. I sing almost everyday singing whatever comes to mind, from songs I heard on the radio to ones I’ve made up in my head. “ – Aiden
“My name is Adam and I joined music because I think of music as a way to escape my worries and daily stresses, along with the fact that music is beautiful and can come in many shapes and forms. I love learning knew things no matter how easy or hard it can be. Music is filled with challenges waiting to be learned, and thats what going to do.” – Adam
“In GT music, we set goals. Then we work on them with our music teachers and improve on them. This year, my goal was to improve on improvising on the trombone. The goal has helped me keep moving and I have definitely improved in improvising. GT has definitely influenced me because I have something to work towards. I have something that can be accomplished by the end of the year. For my entire life I have been surrounded in music. My dad directs the church choir, both my parents play several instruments and are in a band with one of their friends. In the third grade, I was interested in learning to play an instrument so I could also be in the band, so I picked up the violin. I played for a couple of years and learned several useful things that could be transferred to playing trombone. I started trombone in the fifth grade because I wanted to join the band. It started out pretty easy because I already new how to read music and I new about sharps and flats. Also, I already had trained my ear to know what was in tune and what wasn’t. After I mastered all of the notes on trombone, I didn’t know where I wanted to go with my skills. I also joined MOJO (Molly Ockett Jazz Orchestra) at the beginning of this school year. I was really enjoying it, but I had almost no experience with jazz, which is why I chose to learn a little bit of music theory with Mr. Bryan so I could become more comfortable with playing jazz and improvising. In my perspective, GT is for anyone with a passion in playing music and a goal to help them improve.” – Soleil
Students' Musical Opinions
(April 13, 2017)
Hello,
I know that we haven’t written in a while, but that will change. Here are some blog posts from students and their musical experiences in their lives. We hope you enjoy our stories!
“The thing about music that’s different than everything else is emotion. If I were on the football field right now, I wouldn’t show any emotion except for anger; same for any other sport I play. However, in music, you have the opportunity to do so. Whether your an instrumentalist or vocalist, you can express all of the emotions you want to portray in one piece or song. Audiences will feel your emotion and intensity, whether it’s anger, sadness, or happiness.” – Job
“Music has changed my life because I get to practice all of these different instruments that I have learned and it really fun to do. Music is good because it opens up other oppurtunities to do in life. Music upon other things like gym, music is calm and quiet. (sometimes) Music is a great thing to do.” – Ian
“Music is important to me because I get to play with Ian and now my brother Job. I love playing as a band because I love hearing different insruments being combined into one piece of music. I also thought of learning an instrument/chorus is because I am not the smartest kid, so I guess I could be one of the most talented. This is why music is so important to me.” – Haden
“Music is important to me because it lets me experiment, write songs, and it helps me be myself. Music is also important because it helps me discover great things. Like District 2 were I can play with other band players all around the district. Music also taught me that little things can make a difference in how you play.” – Chloe
“Music has always been important to me because my whole family loves music. Someone in my family either sings or plays an instrument, maybe even both! Music makes me come alive and calm down if it has been a stressful day at school or work. Music has always been a part of my family and I’m glad it is. Music is fun, enjoyable, and my family and I are very passionate about making music and bringing smiles to peoples’ faces.” – Rachel
“Music is important to me because it lets me show who I really am. It also helps me just relax and let all the my stress go away because you can just let it all out when you play. I have always been into music ever since I was little and I got a mini keyboard I would always play my “songs” to my grandparents when they came up and it made me feel proud of myself. Music has always made me feel proud because when you play at the concert, it makes you feel and proud of yourself and like you can do it all night if you had to.” – Helena
“The thing I like most about music and Percussion is that it gives me a place just to let everything come out and not really care weather it sounds good. Unless it is a piece that I have to master, then I have a challenge especially when it is a harder piece that I have had no practice with what-so-ever. Also it gives me something to do when I am bored. Whenever I need to get something out of me like if I had a bad day or even a good one, I will go to my set and start playing and I mostly forget what was bad, good or was hard, where ever I was.” – Ethan
“Music is important to me because it is a different way of communicating and expressing yourself and your emotions. I like playing music on my trumpet and saxophone, and I like listening to music on the radio or on my phone. Listening music also can make me feel different. Like in the morning, I listen to loud fast music, or before any sports, I listen to my fast songs that the artist wrote when they were feeling loud and aggressive to get energy and aggression. Music has the impact on me to feel stronger and better about myself.” – Jordan
“GT Music has done wonders for me. GTM is not just a program but a family and what I mean by that is 1) someone is always there ready to assist me in whatever I need, whether it’s reading notes or the song itself, whether it’s another student or a teacher there always ready. 2) everyone is always so kind and cheerful! 3) Some families may not be organized but let me tell you! this one most certainly is! GTM doesn’t just present me with family like qualities but it allows me to accomplish things I never thought were possible. It has allowed me to carry on with a second instrument. I never thought I would get good at my first instrument (percussion) but now I get to play keyboard and piano. which gives me the opportunity to teach others, which has always been a dream of mine. GTM also helps me with my stress levels and helps me calm down when I need to, it’s given me the freedom I need. It’s given me hope and the self confidence i’ve always been looking for. GTM has truly brought out the best in me. Please take my word for it. Yes it was a struggle to get into but it was most definitely worth it!” – Emma
“For me, band means a lot to me. Even though it is only a class, it is an amazing group of people that play together, laugh together, and even mess up together. When we meet we don’t just improve on our instruments, we improve upon our personalities. When I first came into band I was always afraid I would mess up somehow, and now whenever I mess up it just gives me something to improve upon, and not get so embarrassed. Even in the classroom I am more confident than I was a year ago. Every Monday and Wednesday I get to come into a room filled with amazing people that support me when I mess up or even help me improve. I am lucky to be surrounded by these wonderful supportive people. I have made so many friendships in band. One friendship that stands out the most is Hailey Warren who I never even talked to before we started to practice clarinet together. Now, we improve together inside and outside of the band room. Another amazing friendship that, even though we didn’t meet in band, our relationship has grown so much, Emma Keaten. I can now hands down say she is my best friend along with Ana Maillett. I really owe it all to Mr.Brian and Mr.Bosse who have helped me improve in countless ways. Band has given me courage, friendships, and amazing opportunities like GT music which is where I am writing to you today from. If you ever have the chance to join band I would really encourage you to do so. It will give you so many opportunities as it has done so for me. It is an amazing thing to do and enjoy.”– Maya
“So this is my first time ever being in any GT thing and it’s pretty cool. I am a cello player, and the ONLY cello player in my school (accept Mr. Bosse). Mr. Bosse helped me a lot with the scales and songs I was working on. One time Mr. Bosse’s wife was there and she and I talked most of the time. Mr. Bosse helped me start playing a new genre of music. This quarter of GT music was the most fun! :)” – Naomi
“Music has got me to really learn about what it is like to understand music and being a musician and of course learning what it is like to play a musical instrument. I understand very few subjects and I’m not that good a lot, but somehow, I have a connection with music and I really understand it and thanks to Gifted and Talented music I am able to continue performing and learning a new instrument.” – Hailey
