Update for April 2023
(May 1, 2024)
Jasper - I have learned most of the note positions and have gotten to number 67 in the book. My hope by the end of the year is to learn all the positions and make it through the book entirely. I am going to District 2 on the Friday after vacation. I have been practicing for the last 2 months. I have a good feeling that I will finish my goal.
Peter - I have decided to halt my progress in GT Music. I did this because my piano teacher is unable to teach me. Without lessons I feel uninspired and unmotivated. I think that even if I continued on I would not be able to be productive nor would I feel good about what I was creating. As a replacement I will busk outside my house. I plan to busk on Saturdays, which is when the local farmers market occurs.
Galen - This month, I have been practicing rhythms from marches and other rhythm books on the snare. I have also found a new way to hold drumsticks while playing these rhythms. I think it helps to have the handhold but you can do it without. I have also been trying to create my own fill on the drumset. I hope before the end of the year I can learn all and complete all the goals that I wanted to.
March Goals Update
(April 1, 2024)
Jasper - I have moved along in the book very far. I am on number 44 in the book. I have got the bow handling down very well. I have learned 3 more notes! Last but not least, I learned how to read bar notes well.
Galen - This month, I have started to focus on more advanced things. Some of these are fills, songs in the redbook, and listening to other drummers to play the beats they play. I think I have been moving on at first slowly but getting faster the more I play and listen. And I have really enjoyed playing the drums and I expect to continue playing for as long as I'm able to. This month has been great and I can't wait to learn more about the drums.
February 2024 Blog
(March 1, 2024)
Jasper (The Great) - I have gotten pretty far into the book that I'm using to practice with. I have also learned six basic hand positions/notes. I have finally learned how to put all my songs to use with the bow. I do think I am getting along well with my goal and I think I will get all the things I was working on for this month done by the end of the month.
Galen - I think that I have come quite far on the drums for only about a month on the drums. Then for my goal this month I think I completed it because of most beginner songs in the redbook. One thing I would like to learn though is more of the positions of the drums on sheet music. Anyways I hope I can learn lots of new things on the drumset.
We're BAAACK!!!
(February 28, 2024)
Hello Everyone!
It is great to be back. Another year of gifted and talented music coming your way! We started back up in January of 2024. Our blog post for the month of January will be found below. You will meet our new students and will get to see what they will be working on this year. We hope you enjoy!
Jasper – I’m Jasper and during my first month of GT music I have been working on violin. I have gotten to number 21-22 in the book I have been working on the basics of the bow. I am hoping that I will be able to get all the notes down for violin. I am very excited about all the jazz I will be able to do next month if I can get to it with all the other stuff. My favorite type of music is jazz. My favorite song I’ve been working on in my trombone career is night in tunisia, it’s a fast song and that the stuff I think is fun. All the music I listen to is anything, mostly 90s pop or jazz.
Galen – I have been progressing in the drumset learning stuff like buzzes, rim hits and reading notes. I have also been experimenting in ways to play such as. Making my own beats, playing along with songs, and making cool sounds. I find the drums really fun and I want to keep playing them. I have also gotten a practice drum set and soon I will be getting a real one for at home.
Peter – Composing music for multiple instruments was a challenge that I thought would bring to light my lack of knowledge of brass instruments. The real challenge was having the amount of production needed to write four songs in about two hours of given time.
Izzy – I’ve been doing guitar for 3 years and I haven’t really kept up with it. I’ve been doing more piano and singing so I’m not working on much with guitar. But I have been working on my vocals more often and perfecting some songs. Especially working on singing and playing on piano. This year i have almost memorized a song on piano and the vocals so i’m gonna keep working on that as well as guitar.
See you all next month for an updated blog post from your Gifted & Talented Musicians!
